Tim Groves started his sporting career way back in Oakridge High School. Playing as Quarterback, Running back, Punter and Wide Receiver for the team he received many accolades including: All Conference, All State & All American. Tim also ran track for Oakridge and the track team were state champions in 1977. He was also a member of the Baseball and Basketball teams in between Football practices. After receiving offers of scholarships from every team in the SEC and beyond Tim finally decided to follow his heart and play for his beloved Florida Gators. (As stated by Tim "I majored in staying eligible".) He started his freshman year under Doug Dickey and for the last two years played for Charlie Pell. Steve Spurrier was also a quarterback coach during Tim's time at the Gators. His versatility being both his strength and disadvantage Tim was used in several positions at the Gators including Quarterback but had most of his success in the safety position ranking All American and 2nd Team All SEC. After graduating the University of Florida Tim signed papers for the Miami Dolphins before finally settling into a career in the USFL with the Tampa Bay Bandits and finally the Memphis Showboats. After the league folded the Thirsty Gator Oyster Pub was born (thanks to the business acumen of his then newly wed wife Lynn and has enjoyed continued success supporting his beloved Gators since June 1986. Tim and Lynn have two children Timmy (who is awesome) and Katie (so god damn cute) and continue to run a bar that has great quality products and service and a family friendly environment with no shortage of orange and blue.
